Stocking Cap With Long Tail Knitting Pattern

Nathalie Godbout Stocking Cap With Long Tail Knitting Pattern A classic stocking cap with a very long tail, this knitting pattern fits women. It measures 27" from beginning to end (excluding braid and tassel). Gauge:
18 sts = 4" in St st Materials:
Worsted weight yarn in two colors (MC and CC)
Size 8 US (5 mm) 16 inch circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Size 8 US (5 mm) double pointed needles Instructions
Alternate colors every 5 rounds or as desired.
With MC, CO 78 sts. Make sure sts aren't twisted. Join and mark beg of round.
Work k2, p2 ribbing 3½".
Change to CC and work in St st, alternating colors every 5 rounds, until hat measures 5½" from beg. You should have 3 stripes.

Change to double points when sts no longer fit on circulars.

Rnd 3: *K2tog, K10; rep from *

Rnds 6, 8, 9 and 10: With CC, Knit
Rnd 7: *K2tog, K8; rep from *
54 sts at the end of Rnd 10.
Work even in St st for 20 rounds.
Next Rnd: With MC, *K2tog, K7; rep from * - 48 sts
Work even in St st for 19 rounds.
Next Rnd: With MC, *K2tog, K6; rep from * - 42 sts
Work even in St st for 19 rounds.
Next Rnd: With MC, *K2tog, K5; rep from * - 36 sts
Work even in St st for 19 rounds.
Next Rnd: With MC, *K2tog, K4; rep from * - 30 sts
Work even in St st for 19 rounds.
Next Rnd: With MC, *K2tog, K3; rep from * - 24 sts
Work even in St st for 19 rounds.
Next Rnd: With MC, *K2tog, K2; rep from * - 18 sts
Work even in St st for 19 rounds.
Next Rnd: With MC, *K2tog, K1; rep from * - 12 sts
Cut yarn. Thread yarn through tapestry needle and slip through sts on needle. Pull tightly to close top of hat. Stocking Cap With Long Tail Knitting Pattern Make Braid And Tassel
Cut 6 strands of MC yarn approximately 15" or desired length. Fold in half, place around a door knob or have someone hold it (or pull around a knitting needle held between your legs) and braid. On RS of hat, pull unfolded end of braid through top of hat. Knot braid on WS of hat.
Make a tassel of any size desired and attach to folded end of braid.
If desired you can omit the braid and just add a tassel or a pom pom. See Abbreviations and the Glossary for help.
